Putting Lurgan on the map!

The inaugural LASC Olympic Games will be held at Waves on Saturday 22 June from 4.30 onwards. Chairman of the club, Trudy Cochrane, is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm – Lurgan is lucky to have such a lady at the helm. I met her at the swimming pool in Lurgan, and was fascinated at what she was doing. Swimmers will compete for points and the winning team will be awarded the LASC Gala Shield! National anthems, refreshments, medals and prize giving… amazing organisational skills, and thanks to the Lurgan Credit Union for sponsoring. Watch out for their Facebook page live on Tuesday 11th June.

So… what has Lurgan to do with Spain? Local historian Jimmy Conway advises that four Lurgan men fought in the Spanish Civil War…. more on that soon – Jim Haughey was one!

Brownlow House has two Spanish trees, and links with Spain through the museum (open Saturday mornings 10.30 to 1pm – we would love to have it open longer!). Brownlow House is open during the hours on their web site.
