Hispanic Society of Carrickfergus

LetsGoWest.  LetsGoNorth launched the North Highland Way and had many other projects. It all started at Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of the UK mainland.  LetsGoSouth is being reconfigured and we will be back shortly.

The Hispanic Society of Carrickfergus adheres to the General Data Protection Act 2018.  If you would like to add yourself to the list, just email me your name and surname, email address and telephone number and I will add you to the list.

Meanwhile, you can join the Society here.

HISPANIC SOCIETY OF CARRICKFERGUS

Carrickfergus is a small seaside town on the north Antrim coast.  It is a lovely little place, with a beautiful castle.  We started investigating the links between Northern Ireland and Spain and were delighted to have found several, some of which we will visit on the tour during the Spanish summer school which will take place from 23-28 July.

This was the first event of the newly launched Hispanic Society of Carrickfergus.

Some of the aims of the Society are to seek cultural and heritage links between Northern Ireland and Spain, to promote those links to a wide audience and to raise the profile of Carrickfergus as a tourism destination.  We will be taking membership subscriptions at the Spanish summer school.

The benefits of the Society are:

  • to offer Spanish lessons at a reduced rate
  • attend events at reduced rate.
  • to assist with other links with Spanish / Hispanic projects and business in Northern Ireland
  • a card will be provided with the following:
    • Discounted trips to Spain
    • Access to Spanish books not in the library system
    • Free talks
    • Regular newsletter
    • Discounted Spanish lessons in Spain
    • Discount on tours organised by the Society
    • Discount at the Society’s events

The founder of the Society, Tina Irving, is  an active member of the local Spanish community with links with all kinds of organisations. This summer the Society’s first event was a summer school which took place between 23 and 27 July 2018.   There was be a tour to the “Armada” tree and tapas cost , language lessons, a flamenco show and dinner and talks!  Photos and videos by a representative of the Carrickfergus Camera Club – Jim Smythe kindly took the pictures for us…

We are also planning to have Spanish classes in Competa, Spain, in April 2019. This will complement the Art Walk.  The first person to book for the week will receive a free tour and tasting at a local vineyard.  Lunch is extra.  Register your interest here.
